An aesthetician, or beautician, is a worker who specializes in giving beauty treatments. They specialize in the study of skin care, including facial treatments, waxing as a form of hair removal, and cosmetic make-up services and is  proficient in all forms of beauty care and can give facials, skin, and nail treatments.

One of the main role is to recommend products that suit the customer. Demonstrating the use of products, for example by giving facials or applying make-up is important especially when promoting a particular product. Keeping records of regular customers in order to provide a personalized service is essential as having an organized customer database is will ensure the growth of the business. The added skill of displaying and restocking products plus carrying out routine sales tasks such as wrapping purchases and handling payments is vital in this job role.

A make-up artist is an artist who creates makeup and prosthetics for theatrical, television, film and other similar productions including the modeling world. In many cases they can also include the responsibilities of hair and wig design as well. This is due to the ability to display a face to its full potential as well as establish a working relationship with the actor or person being worked on. Make-up artists can expand their career in several different ways; they can intern at a theater, they can assist a working make-up artist, or they can attend a school dedicated to make-up artistry. Many Make-up artists are primarily self-employed (freelancers), but they may also be represented by an agency, or employed by a company.

An electrologist offers removal of unwanted hair via an electrolysis machine. As opposed to the hair removal via waxing offered by an esthetician, hair removal via electrolysis is permanent. The knowledge of equipment operation and contra-indications are vital for those who are interested in this job.

The beauty trainer or tutor is responsible for all theoretical and practical training for all staff or student. The post requires them to plan, monitor and evaluate training programs. They must be highly knowledgeable with beauty therapy to be able maintain and update training manuals.

A nail technician specializes in the art form of nails. This includes manicures, pedicures, acrylic nails, gel nails, nail wraps etc. They are also knowledgeable in nail irregularities.
